
For the first time since 2019, postseason baseball is returning to Morgantown.
West Virginia earned the No. 16 national seed and will host the NCAA Morgantown Regional this weekend at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
The Mountaineers (39-14) received an at-large bid after finishing second in the Big 12 Conference with a 21-9 league mark before falling to Kansas in the conference tournament championship game.
WVU, making its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 17th overall, will open regional play Friday against No. 4 seed Binghamton at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
No. 2 seed Wake Forest and No. 3 seed Kentucky will meet in Friday’s opener at noon.
The regional represents another milestone for a WVU program that has emerged as one of the nation’s most consistent postseason teams under coach Steve Sabins.
The Mountaineers are seeking a third consecutive regional championship after winning the Tucson Regional in 2024 and Clemson Regional in 2025.
WVU is still searching for its first trip to the College World Series.
Wake Forest enters the tournament at 38-19 overall after tying for fifth in the ACC with a 16-14 conference record. The Demon Deacons are making their fifth straight NCAA Regional appearance and will attempt to reach Omaha for the fourth time in program history.
Kentucky enters postseason play at 31-21 overall after finishing 13th in the SEC with a 13-17 league mark. The Wildcats are making their fourth consecutive regional appearance and are pursuing the program’s second College World Series berth.
Binghamton arrives in Morgantown after winning the America East Tournament. The Bearcats are 31-20 overall and received an automatic bid after winning the America East Conference tournament.
