Marshall track and field closed the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships with its strongest performance of the weekend Saturday in Mobile, Alabama, highlighted by a gold medal from Lara Check and three school records.

Check captured the women’s long jump title with a leap of 6.30 meters, completing a sweep of the Sun Belt indoor and outdoor championships in the event this season. The senior, who ranks No. 2 all-time in Marshall history in the long jump, is positioned to qualify for the NCAA East Regionals later this month at the University of Kentucky.

The Thundering Herd produced 17 scoring performances on the final day of the meet and finished with four podium finishes overall.

Marshall’s men also shined in the triple jump, where Otenidi Omot finished runner-up with a school-record mark of 15.64 meters. Cam Hamby placed third at 15.57 meters, while Trashaun Smith added a fourth-place finish at 15.51 meters.

On the track, Bay’Andria Hodges broke her own school record in the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.42 seconds after setting the previous mark during Friday’s preliminaries.

Marshall’s women’s 4×100 relay team of Iniya Charlton, Emma Henry, Hodges and Lakesha Smith also set a school record with a second-place finish in 44.67 seconds, becoming the first relay team in program history to break the 45-second barrier.

Sophomore Myah Boze added another podium finish for the Herd by taking second in the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 58.96 seconds.

The Marshall men finished eighth in the team standings with 46 points, the program’s highest total since returning in 2023, while the women placed 10th with 52 points.

Marshall athletes who achieved qualifying marks will compete in the NCAA East Regionals beginning May 27 in Lexington, Kentucky. Check is among those currently in position to qualify.
